Moisture is absolutely necessary for natural hair, and regular protein and oil treatments will help hair maintain a healthy balance. Moisturized hair is soft, easy to comb and does not frizz as easily as dry hair does. Hair regularly treated with protein is stronger and less susceptible to breakage, and oils lubricate hair and scalp helping to nourish and seal in moisture.
The process of growing your natural hair out can be frustrating and unsightly without proper products, tools and instructions. There are two methods:
1. As hair is relaxed it goes from curly to wavy to straight, and when hair is completely straight there is an extreme difference between the curly new growth and the straight hair. It is at this point on the hair shaft that hair breakage occurs during the transition period. This difference in hair texture is also the reason many feel the need to relax their hair more frequently. Using a light relaxer like Lo-Lye Conditioning Cream Relaxer with Shea Butter, lightly loosens your natural curl pattern without getting it straight, making the difference in hair less extreme at the breaking point. Your hair will go from wavy to straight and thus less susceptible to breakage. After a while the difference between the new growth and the previously relaxed hair is curly to wavy. The need to relax becomes less frequent and eventually the transition is made. This process takes much longer, but it is less shocking and allows you to gradually transition into your new natural hair.
2. As your natural hair grows in, have it thermally straightened weekly and trimmed every six weeks. This will give your hair the appearance of being straight as you grow out which will allow for a seamless transition. After a while you won't even notice that half your hair is natural. This is best achieved with regular salon visits, or if you are maintaining your hair at home, the proper thermal styling tools will make a huge difference in the ease and look of your hair. pHusion Ionic blowdryers with far infrared technology will allow you to quickly dry while maintaining hair's moisture, and pHusion ceramic flat irons will give hair the best degree of thermal straightening, leaving hair soft, silky and moisturized in the process.
